Tough Season Enders for Silver Creek, Jeff

In the first game of the semi-finals of the Jeff Sectional, the Silver Creek Lady Dragons, just couldn't keep up with the New Albany Bulldogs. It didn't take long for the Bulldogs to get on the scoreboard and they never looked back. Final score: 9-1

The Floyd Central Highlanders were able to get a shutout over the host Lady Devils. The Lady Highlanders took full advantage of a flat-footed Jeff team. With only one shot on goal during the whole 40 minutes, the Highlanders flattened Jeff, 7-0.

Tonight's final will be a great game between the New Albany Bulldogs and Floyd Central Highlanders. The game is at 7 at Jeffersonville High School.

Lady Devils Move on to Semi-Finals in Sectional

The Jeff Red Devils earned a spot in the Jeffersonville Sectional last night with a win over Christian Academy Indiana. The girls came out on fire! Freshman, Bekah Burgan sent a pass off to Senior Midfielder Brittany Searcy waiting at the top of the 18. Searcy lofted the Devils first goal, and her first of the year, past the CAI goalie a little over 7 minutes into the game, (just as her poor Mom went out to the parking lot to retrieve something from the car)! Great shot Searcy!

The next two points came from Burgan. At the 21:35 mark in the first half a foul was committed in the box by CAI, which gave the Devils a chance at a penalty kick! Burgan took the shot quickly to bring the score 2-0. Then with 4:44 left to the half, Burgan dribbled into the 18. The CAI goalie charged and with a little flick to the left, Burgan was able to dribble around the goalie, who could only watch as she dribbled it into the goal.

During the second half Jeff just wasn't able to find the net again, and allowed Ally Smith of CAI to score, ending the game 3-1. Great job girls! On to the Semi's!

Jeff will face Floyd Central tonight at 8. The Highlanders were able to shutout Corydon Central 5-0, to earn their spot in tonight's semi-final.

New Albany and Silver Creek will play in their semi-final also tonight at 6.

The Silver Creek Lady Dragons win their first Sectional game ever, 2-0, over Salem. Silver Creek will now play New Albany on Thursday at 6. New Albany advances with their win over Providence, 4-1.

IHSAA Jeffersonville Girls Sectional

Good luck Devils on tomorrows game against Christian Academy of Indiana.

Monday night started the IHSAA Jeff Girls Sectional with North Harrison taking on Corydon Central. It was a tight match right through the half with the teams tied, 2-2. Don't know if NH became tired or Corydon just got hot, but Corydon was able to score five goals in a matter of 15 minutes or so, to end the game 7-2. Corydon will now take on defending Sectional Champs, Floyd Central on Wednesday at 8 pm.

Tonight at 6, Silver Creek will take on Salem. At 8, New Albany takes on Providence for the rematch of the year! NA made a comeback late in the game to take the win over Providence in their regular season match. For me, it's a coin-toss on who will win tonight. Guarantee it will be a great game to watch.

The Lady Devils play tomorrow at 6 against newcomer Christian Academy of Indiana. Make sure you come out cheer on the Devils. Go Devils!

Lady Devils Just Can't Make It Happen

Columbus East was just too fast for our Lady Devils. Keeping the Olympians to 3 in the first half was a good start, but in the second half, we couldn't hold them, nor find the net. The Devils gave up three more goals to end their regular season with a 6-0 loss. It's on to Sectionals next week. Good luck Ladies!

Ladies Last Ditch Effort Just Shy

The Lady Devils started off strong against Madison, scoring early in the game. Bekah Burgan made a run up the middle to only end up at the top of the 18 with three defenders on her. But able to see Sophomore, Alyssa Garcia barreling through on her right, was able to get a quick feed to Garcia, where she pounded the ball low past the goalie.

It wasn't too long that Madison was able to answer with their own goal from an unfortunate direct kick resulting from an unintentional foul away from the ball in play, making the game, 1-1.

Freshman, Shelby West really stepped it up during the game, having multiple, unlucky shots on goal. She just was not able to find the net. During the last 30 seconds of the game, West, in a last ditch effort, dribbled the ball around multiple defenders and chipped a bullet over the goalies head, only for it to find the very bottom of the crossbar and bounce back. Unfortunately no one followed for a rebound and once the Madison defenders cleared the ball, clock sounded and the game ended in a tie.

Floyd Central downs JHS 5-1

The Lady Devils fought a hard fight against the Highlanders of Floyd Central, but just couldn't get settled enough to stop them, losing 5-1. The only break the Devils had was when the Highlanders committed a hand ball violation in the penalty box. Left-footed, Freshman, Bekah Burgan chose her spot and was able to go low to the ground to the right and get it just past the goalie, to give her 8 goals for the year. The Devils (3-8-1) will travel to Madison Wednesday. There has been a time change from the previous post, JV @ 6, Varsity 7:30. Remember, the Butler game Thursday has been cancelled.

Lady Devils fight with Dragons to End in Tie, Celebrate Seniors

The Lady Devils celebrated their three Seniors on Saturday, 9/27 with a game against the Lady Dragons of Silver Creek. During half time, our Boosters recognized Brittany Searcy, Heather Duvall and Becky Cissell by presenting them with a blanket to commemorate thier time with the Lady Devils Soccer team. The Lady Dragon Seniors were also presented with a small token to celebrate their accomplishments.

The final score was 3-3. During the first half, the Devils controlled the game and was able to find the net twice. Liz Hunton was able to find the net to put the Devils on the board first. Then Rebecca Kitchen drove up the middle, but was surrounded by defenders. She was able to get a short touch off to Bekah Burgan who came flying through the crowd in the box and get a touch on it to slide it just past the goalie. The first half ended 2-1, Devils.

During the first five minutes of the second half, the Dragons were able to get two quick goals past Jordan Rodeigher, taking the lead at 3-2. After much frustration and determination, Burgan was able to find the net again to tie it up. With about 30 seconds left the Devils were able to get off one more shot and missed the goal to the left by inches. . . Game Over 3-3.

Devils Never Give Up

A loss to the New Albany Bulldogs, 5-0, would normally get the Lady Red Devils down and out, but not last night! The girls accomplished two goals that not every team has been able to do . . . Keeping the score lower than what the Bulldogs have been used to (averaging about 10 a game) and keeping them scoreless in the second half.

The girls have much to be proud of. Knowing NA has been stomping most teams, our girls went out last night hungry to keep them at bay. The Lady Devils are showing improvement, especially with the mental game and they turned in on last night. Determined not to let the Bulldogs slaughter them, our Defense really stepped it up. Britney Lipps, Devin Conway and Rachelle Thomas all played well along with midfielder Shelby West. Our keeper, Jordan Rodeghier also had a great game and as a Freshman, is constantly improving and showing a lot of confidence in the goal.

Though no win was recorded for the Devils, standing up to the Bulldogs and showing them that the Devils will not back down was a great accomplishment for this team and shows that they are on the upside of becoming an eventual contender in the Hoosier Hills Conference! Watch out Southern Indiana . . . the Devils are on the loose!

BNL Game Ends in Protest

The score, 3-2, for now shows Bedford North-Lawrence winning, but because BNL had multiple players that played four halves today, Coach Dennis protested the game with the Officials and will seek to have BNL forfeit the game. IHSAA rules state that a player may only play a total of three halves during one session (like a JV/Varsity set of games).

The Lady Devils started out the game well and were able keep the Stars at bay and able to get on the board first after Junior, Britney Lipps scored on a Penalty Kick as a result of a BNL handball in the box at the 30:48 mark. The only goal through the whole first half.

Freshmen Shelby West and Bekah Burgan tried to sink the win with 22:24 remaining. West was able to get off a great cross, right into the middle of the box. Burgan was able break away and get a head on the ball which she directed to the back of the net! BNL was able to find a rebound and put it in the net at 17:31. And again from an indirect kick with 6:38 remaining.

At about the 6:00 mark, Senior, Brittany Searcy, going for a 50/50 ball with a BNL player who lost her balance and fell, was given a second yellow card by the Official, which meant she had to come off the field for the rest of the game, as two yellows become a red. Shortly after BNL made another quick goal to end the game 3-2.

Once the protest has gone through it's processes at IHSAA, we should come out with the W! And the girls deserve it!

Forest Park Proves Too Much for Lady Devils

Forest Park beat the Lady Devils, 3-0, with all three goals coming in the second half. The Devils worked hard to keep the Rangers at bay during the first half and succeeded to have the score at 0-0 at half time. But the Rangers came back onto the pitch with a vengeance just too much for our team.

Lady Devil's Still Struggling

Four games in a week and the Lady Devil's Soccer team is struggling to find another win. Coach says it is our longest, hardest stretch during the season. Let's hope so. Battered, bruised and worn out, with many injuries didn't help with last nights loss to Seymour. With just a few minutes left in the second half, Junior, Brittany Lipps was able to get off a long pass to Freshman, Bekah Burgan, waiting at the center line. Burgan brought the ball up the left sideline determined to get past Seymour's quick defense, taking a left footed shot from just inside the 18 finally finding the back of the net for the Devils, scoring Jeff's lone goal in the 6-1 loss.

We now have 11 days until the next match (September 13 vs. Forrest Park). This should give our girls time to rest and heal from the injuries endured over the last week. GO LADY DEVILS!

Was Heat a Factor?

Jeff lost to Jasper 4-0. It is the best the Lady Devil's have done against Jasper, ever. It was quite hot out and the team looked sluggish! But once again, our Goalie, Jordan, had an outstanding game.

We move on to Seymour Tuesday at Seymour and then have about a week and a half break, which will be good to let our girls catch their breath. Four games in a week will be quite exhausting! See you then.

Lady Devil's Overpowered by Pioneer's

Last night's 8-0 loss to Providence was a heart breaker. The physical nature of the Pioneers proved to be too much for our girls. The Lady Devil's ended up playing a very defensive game and looked to be on our heels most of the evening. We had very few shots on goal. Once again, Freshman, Jordan Rodeghier, played an awesome game as keeper! She had so many great saves!

Jordan, normally an intense Karate student, is in her first year of playing soccer, ever. She is intense and takes to the goal as a natural. Look for her to become one of the top all-time JHS keepers! You would never know she had never stepped onto the pitch until this year! Awesome game Jordan!

The Junior Varsity also lost to Providence, 5-0.

Girls Go 2-2 With Loss to Jennings County

The score pretty much tells it all, 12-1. Devin Conway scored the lone goal in the loss to Hoosier Hills Conference team, Jennings County, our home opener. With a couple players missing due to injuries and other reasons, the team looked flat. There were quite a few double-shirted players that had played a lot during the JV game prior to the Varsity game, so they looked and played tired. Our defense did the best they could. Junior, Britney Lipps worked her tail off in defense to keep the ball out of the goal, but it just wasn't enough. She became gassed and just couldn't hold them off. Jennings County was a fast team who had great ball handling skills.

So, we are going to hold our heads up high! Brush it off as a lesson learned and FOCUS on Thursday's home game against Providence.

I saw this in our Sponsorship Program last night. I don't know who came up with it, but love it:

D - DETERMINATION
E - EXCELLENCE
V - VICTORY
I - INTEGRITY
L - LOVE OF THE GAME
S - SPORTSMANSHIP

Lady Devils Perform Well at District 5 Tournament

On Saturday the Lady Devil's Soccer team fared well at the District 5 Tournament in Columbus. During the first game, the girls were a bit sluggish during the first half and didn't have much for South Dearborn . South Dearborn was up 3-0 at the end of the first half.

During the second half the Devil's seemed to come alive! There were great touches and passes and some great saves by the goalie. #16, Elizabeth Hunton, Sophmore, finally found the net from a great shot from the top of the 18, to make it 4-1. Then # 6, Bekah Burgan, Freshman, scored with the assist by #14, Brittany Searcy. The defense held South Dearborn to only one more goal to end the game at 5-2.

The Lady Devil's played Richmond next. This game proved to be a physically demanding one with the heat and humidity beating down on the field. The Lady's did very well. Execution was great and determination was fierce!

# 7 Cadie Kiger, a Freshman who normally plays JV was put in by Coach D. That proved to be a great move. Cadie scored with an assist from fellow Freshman, Bekah Burgan, to get the Devil's off to a great start. Soon #18, Rebecca Kitchen put another in the net off a great cross by Freshman Shelby West. Then Kiger proved her worth again by getting a pass off to Bekah Burgan, who sweetly placed it the goal.

Again, defense played wonderfully to hold Richmond to only one goal, which gave us the win, 3-1. Great job again girls.

The Lady Devil's Soccer team is 1-0 in regular season play and 1-1 at the District 5 tournament. We have three home games this week. On Tuesday we play Jennings County, Thursday its Providence and Saturday we play Jasper. Come join us in supporting the JHS Lady Devil Soccer teams.

Lady Devil's Blank North Harrison 5-0 in First Game of the Season!

Even though there was some confusion when the Lady Devil's arrived at North Harrison, having to play at 6 instead of 7:30, the Varsity showed up ready to play! The first half was a slow one. The girls on the field looked good. We controlled the ball for the majority of the half. There were lots of shots, we just couldn't find the net.

During the second half, we showed up on the pitch even more ready to play! The first goal was scored by #18, Junior, Rebecca Kitchen from a great shot just inside the box. Then in a scruff inside the box, just in front of the goal, #8 Susan DiTeresa (Sophmore) got her foot on a rebound. Later, #13, Defender, Rochelle Thomas (Sophmore) got a great shot off from just about the center line, and up and over the goalies head, it found the back of the net! WOW! Also during the game, #3 Shelby West and #6 Bekah Burgan, both Freshmen, were able to place one of their many shots into the net to end the game at 5 to 0.

Both goalies, Becky & Jordan, played very well. Our defense showed great determination in getting the ball to the Devil's end of the field and the offense did well trying to keep the ball there! Great job girls!

Communication was lost somewhere and when the Lady Devil's JV squad arrived they found that North Harrison did not have a JV team. Thanks to Bill Gordon and the two little brothers volunteering to referee, the JV squad did get to play two 20 minute halves as a scrimmage. Unfortunately the scorers were not kept track of, but the Devil's won 3-0. Way to go girls!

We're in Columbus, Indiana Saturday for the District 5 tournament. The girls leave out Friday after school to enjoy a little shopping at the outlet malls. The Varsity plays at 11:15 and 4:00 and JV plays at 1:00. Hope we'll see you there!

Saturday, 8/16 Jamboree

The girls didn't look too bad, even though we got beat by New Albany 3-0 and Floyd Central 1-0. The girls worked hard and will only get better over time. They will begin to learn to work together and trust one another soon. We need to make better passes and work on foot skills and take more shots, but it will all come in time. It would be nice to give these two teams a run for their money when we play them in regular season! And, I think we can do it. Now it's off to North Harrison on Wednesday, 8/20/08! Hope to see you there!

Just excited for it all to start

I just am excited for the soccer season to start! The girls started two-a-day's today. For those who don't know, today, 8/4, is the first day that tryouts and practices are allowed for the high schools and the two-a-day's allow for the 10 practices that are needed before you are allowed to play in competition. I know I said the next entry would have the Varsity and JV players listed, but I just wanted to let everyone know it's on! It's official! The season is starting and I can't wait! I don't know when Coach will make the decision on the teams, but just as soon as he does I will post! See you then!

Washington, IN Scrimmages

Well, the girls tried really hard today, but we lost both games. Give them credit . . . It was HOT, HUMID and they had to get up very early, so they were exhausted, but never once did they give up. The two teams we played today were very good with passes, dribbles and foot skills. They were quick too. Now Coach D should have a good idea what the girls need to work on and after next weeks break, the girls should be ready to train hard during the 2-a-days starting Monday, August 4th. School's just around the corner and some are excited to get back and some just want to get it over with! LOL Once school starts the season is on, so gear up, train hard, keep your heads up and Let's Get Ready to Rumble! Next update will have the Varsity and JV teams listing, then it's on to the Floyd Central Jamboree, August 16th. Hope to see you there.
